Sherry L. Levio, M.D., is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated magna cum laude from The University of Alabama. She received her medical degree from the University of South Alabama. After completing a general surgery internship at Saint Louis University, she served four years in the United States Air Force as a General Medical Officer at Beale AFB, California. During her military service, Dr. Levio was appointed Director of the Tumor Board Registry, as well as the Peer Review Program. She also volunteered for a medical humanitarian mission to Timor Lester and was recognized for her outstanding contributions by the USAF Commander overseeing the mission. Upon discharge from the USAF, she was honored with The Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service.
Following her military service, Dr. Levio completed her internal medicine residency at West Virginia University and her fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of South Alabama. She has been actively involved in the education and training of medical students and residents and is a published author in the journal Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology. Dr. Levio is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.
She plans to continue to be an advocate of underserved populations through future overseas medical humanitarian service.
